I’ve been collecting reborn for approximately 6 years…making my own for approximately 4 yrs like allot of collectors and artist I fell into the rabbit hole as soon as I saw how realistic a well done sculpt can look & feel like a real baby …hence the appeal .
I began rooting hair on bald reborn I purchased for my personal collection , then re weighting those that were not heavy enough. I had 40 babies in my collection at one point …. That’s when
my Daughter pointed out I should try creating my own reborn since I have experience making porcelain dolls & other art forms involving painting …plus I felt wool using the same needles used to root hair.
I decided to try making my own reborn after lots of practice…. I didn’t want to disappoint the first buyer. That is my ultimate goal…..
To make someone who chooses with my work happy when it arrives ?….,It truly is the reward for all the work, time , cost involved in creating one of these babies.
As a collector I know I have my favorite artist that I’ve purchased multiple babies from, I would be flattered if someone wanted another reborn I created… that would validate all the work time & cost involved for sure .
I think collecting my own from other artist helped me in knowing what to look for in a reborn ….as well as how much I can improve on. The ultimate goal is to make my babies as realistic as possible ….so they may be mistaken for a live baby ….even for a moment. To give collectors the feel of a live child when they hold the reborn in their arms. That is why reborn appeal to so many including me.
