Ever since I heard of silicone dolls I wanted to hold one. I scoured the internet looking for just the right kit and when I laid eyes on Johnnie I knew I had to have her. Her chubby cheeks and soft pop belly were irresistible! She is made of Ecoflex 20 silicone. So is adorable! Her sweet little body folds into my arms and her head wobbles like a real newborn. Her hair is barely there, newborn hair. I painted it with silicone, which is good for two reasons. One, her hair won’t fall out and second, you wouldn’t want me to root hair, I tried it once---it didn’t turn out well. However, I have practiced quite a bit over the years on rooting eyelashes and I am pleased with them, they add to the realism to her sweet face.
Now as a disclaimer, this is the first silicone doll I have ever held, much less painted, and she was a learning process. That is to say that there are artistic techniques that I have yet to master, for instance, keeping the incessant dust off of her during the painting process. (I borrowed my brother’s room as an art studio, so that might explain the unbelievable amount of dust hanging in the air:) So despite my best efforts some dust got mixed in with the paint of her skin. Other mistakes to be noted are a small blue mark under her right armpit, a kind of reddish patch on her stomach, a small silicone ripple on her bum. I try to show these in the pictures. Despite her minor blemishes, I am still smitten with her. Yet I didn't create her for me, she is meant for someone who will give her the unconditional love that she deserves.
