|Hi there! I'm Jessica, the artist behind Atlas Art Dolls. I have worked in the creative arts for nearly the last two decades. (Whoa. Just realized that my "decade" is now comin' in hot and PLURAL!) |
I met my husband in acting and the theatre and we went on to have two wee thespians of our own. Those "wee guys" are now both teenagers who keep us on ball fields practically year round, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Being a mom to boys is the best! (#MamasBoys am I right??)
Acting, was, in a roundabout way, how I got into painting dolls. Weird, I know! I was acting on a project where they needed a baby for a particular scene, but it needed to be a very, very young baby. The prop department was hesitant to use a real baby, as it was a period drama and modern pacifiers and bottles could not be used. In theatre you try and always prepare for the unexpected, and a fussy baby with no way to sooth him, would be tricky.
I had experience in special effects make-up, and costuming, so I volunteered to try and work up a prop baby.
Enter paintable doll kits, stage left! I found I really loved the experience of crafting a realistic baby doll, and was fortunate to be asked to make several others. Eventually, it turned into a small side gig for me.
With theatres shutting down due to the Covid pandemic, I decided to start making and selling Reborns online for private collectors. I love creating very specific dolls for the stage, but I also really enjoy exploring lots of different sculpts and playing around with my own styling.
I hope you enjoy browsing my nursery. I am always here to answer any questions you may have. I know I'm a total newbie when it comes to selling here at Reborns, so I have come up with some buyer safety protocol to make buyers more comfortable. First off, I'm happy and willing to provide safety photos any day, any time! I'm upfront and honest about all details and provide professional photography in natural lighting to show the doll exactly as you will receive him or her. No touch ups or editing whatsoever will be done of the dolls. No blurring or skin smoothing. Photos may receive shadow and lighting adjustments to better show detailing. Our shots have a subtle "matte" look as we believe this gives a more accurate depiction of color and details without the contrast of bright light and shadows. Colors may vary by monitor and even by the time of day the photos were shot, so if you need specific color details and more in depth descriptions, don't hesitate to ask. I try and be really specific in regards to skin tones in my descriptions.
If you desire extra photos, just let me know!
Once a baby sells, I provide a shipping date and boxing photos. Once a baby is dropped off for shipping, I will send tracking information. I prefer to ship "signature required" as I feel it provides the utmost protection against errant deliveries and Porch Pirates.
We are a smoke free environment with a non-shedding pup that I promise will never wallow your doll! ;) I look forward to getting started here. Love, light, and God's blessings! --Jessica
